Parliamentary Select Committee on Health Visits St. Anne Catholic Hospital

As part of its nationwide exercise to engage healthcare institutions and assess operations, challenges, and development prospects, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health paid a working visit to St. Anne Catholic Hospital on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

The six-member delegation was led by Hon. Sebastian Ngmenenso Sandaare, Vice Chairperson of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Daffiama/Bussie/Issa Constituency. St. Anne Catholic Hospital was selected for this important visit as it currently serves as the interim Savannah Regional Hospital, playing a pivotal role in the delivery of healthcare services in the region.

The visit began with a closed-door meeting involving members of the Diocesan Health Board, the Savannah Regional Health Directorate, and the hospital’s management team. This session provided an opportunity for open discussions about the hospital’s progress and ongoing challenges.

Following the meeting, the delegation was taken on a guided tour of several departments within the facility. This tour was designed to help the members familiarize themselves with the hospital’s daily operations and the realities on the ground.

During the engagement, the hospital’s leadership highlighted several pressing issues affecting service delivery. Top among them was the lack of an MRI machine—a critical diagnostic tool—and the absence of a befitting maternity ward to support the growing maternal health needs of the region.

Despite these challenges, the committee expressed their satisfaction with the overall standard of care and the hospital environment. Hon. Sandaare, on behalf of the team, commended management and staff for their dedication and encouraged them to “keep up the good work.”

St. Anne Catholic Hospital extends its sincere appreciation to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health for choosing the facility as part of their oversight mission. Management remains hopeful that the issues raised will receive the attention they deserve through legislative advocacy and national health planning.
